For the first time, 60 U.S. footwear importers will trade online with Vietnamese businesses
This is a plan under the cooperation program between the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) and the Trade Office of the Embassy of Vietnam in the United States and the Footwear Distributors and Retailers Association of America (FDRA) within the framework of the "Online Trade Conference: Trade Promotion of Footwear between Vietnam and the United States after Covid-19". taking place from May 28 to 30, 2020.

The conference is the first online trade event in the field of footwear of Vietnam with the US market.
At the trade conference, the two sides will update the situation of the US footwear market in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic and assess the prospects for the coming time as well as how to adapt in the new context. Introducing the policy orientation of the Vietnamese side to develop the footwear industry and promote trade activities in the footwear sector with the US market, which is the leading export market of Vietnamese footwear products in the context of the new situation after the epidemic is controlled in both Vietnam and the United States. Creating opportunities to introduce and connect Vietnamese and US businesses in the field of footwear.
Footwear is one of the main export industries of Vietnam. 2019 is considered a successful year for footwear exports when the turnover reached 18.3 billion USD, up 12.8% over the same period last year, of which the United States is the largest export market with a turnover of 6.65 billion USD, up 14.2%.
According to statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the first quarter of 2020, the United States continued to be the No. 1 market for imports of Vietnam's footwear of all kinds with a turnover of 1.56 billion USD, up 10% over the same period in 2019.
Although footwear exports to the US market achieved growth in the first quarter of this year, in the face of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, many Vietnamese exporters of this product said that the negotiated contracts of the second and third quarters of 2020 have not been due to the decline in consumption in the United States. Not only reducing orders, many partners also suddenly stopped orders, making businesses unable to turn back.
Up to now, Vietnam has proven to the world its success in controlling and preventing the spread of the disease in the community. Many experts forecast that, after controlling the Covid 19 epidemic, the demand for footwear in the US market will increase. Therefore, from now on, footwear businesses need to promote trade promotion to the US market.
Through this trade conference, Vietnamese enterprises and U.S. importers will better understand each other's needs and capabilities, and come to an agreement on opportunities for trade promotion cooperation for the benefit of both sides. contributing to supporting businesses to safely overcome the pandemic, preparing forces to quickly respond to trade and market developments after the Covid-19 epidemic ends, contributing to strengthening the trade relationship that has been built on sustainable foundations between the two countries South – United States.
Recently, although the Covid 19 epidemic has complicated developments around the world, trade activities have not been disrupted because of the epidemic. Only in April and May 2020, the Department of Trade Promotion has organized many online trade activities with the following markets: Yunnan, Zhejiang, Chongqing – China; India. In the coming time, when the epidemic is controlled, in addition to the traditional form of trade promotion, the Trade Promotion Agency will continue to organize trade activities with many markets: China, Singapore, etc.
