Nikkei: Apple wants to withdraw 15-30% of production lines from China

Apple has asked its major suppliers to assess the cost impact of shifting 15% to 30% of production capacity from China to Southeast Asia as they prepare to restructure their supply chains.

According to the Nikkei Asian Review, Apple has asked its major suppliers to assess the cost impact of moving 15% to 30% of production capacity from China to Southeast Asia as they prepare to restructure their supply chains.

Apple's request comes amid a long-running trade dispute between China and the United States.

The iPhone maker has decided that the risks of relying heavily on production in China are too great and even increase.

According to Nikkei, the main iPhone assemblers are Foxconn, Pegatron Corp, Wistron Corp, MacBook maker: Quanta Computer Inc., iPad maker: Compal Electronics Inc. and AirPods makers: Inventec Corp., Luxshare-ICT and Goertek have been asked to evaluate the party options outside China.

Countries under consideration include Mexico, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Apple has not commented on the news published by the Nikkei Asian Review.
